Professor Mieczysław Serwiński, Rector of TUL 1968-1975 (speech 1974)
The activities and development prospects of Lodz University of Technology are inextricably linked to the vital industrial needs of Łódź, the Łódź Voivodship, and in some areas of production to the needs of the country. (...) Therefore the directions of research and didactic work must take into account such major problems as: intensive housing construction, modernisation and extension of a number of industries important for Łódź and the Region, e.g.: textile, machine-building, low-voltage electrical apparatus, transformers, paper, leather, refrigeration and others.
Łódź is, and seems likely to remain, the capital of Polish textile industry. Hence the University participates in the scientific and technological solution of such issues as textile raw materials, textile metrology, spinning, weaving, knitting, chemical treatment of fibre including dyeing. This is combined with extensive work on the synthesis of new dyes, the development of monomer chemistry, fibre-forming polymers, textile-chemical chemistry and technology as a whole.
