Professor Bolesław Konorski, Rector of TUL 1952-1953
In July and August [1945] I had discussions with Professors Stefanowski and Achmatowicz. I knew how much work they had.
The number of books in the Library was close to zero. Every day bags of books arrived. We carried them together: two clerks – Ms Stolle and Ms Przedpełska – and me. There were no records and no bookkeeping, so I introduced book registration and initiated cataloguing. Limited-time lending of books was introduced. Students were flocking to the books. Different than before. The students even helped us, nothing was destroyed by rain or disorder.
From March 1945, I worked at the Ministry of Industry, Department of Energy, as head of the Economic Department. What attracted me to TUL? A passion for science and a passion for implementing my own visions into reality. I never prepare for a lecture and treat every lecture as an improvisation on a specific topic. In this way, the lecture does not have a rigid form and takes on a fresh character. This also intensifies the interest of the audience, who easily accept the passion of the lecturer. The listener can and should be stimulated to think.
At the end of October 1945, Prof. Stefanowski and Prof. Achmatowicz put me in charge of all economic matters.
The place for anecdotes could only be the canteens, where consumers met three times a day. The mood there was relaxed, not overwhelmed by the workload.
